Chick-fil-A first added Chicken Tortilla Soup to its menu in January 2012, and it has returned as a seasonal item nearly every fall and winter since. The most recent run was November 10, 2025 through March 7, 2026 — and once it’s off the menu, the only way to get it is to make it yourself.
What makes it distinct from most restaurant tortilla soups is the broth: it’s not a tomato base, not a pure cream soup. It’s a savory Southwestern white broth thickened with pureed beans, with real body and a mild heat from green chilies and spices. Option 3 — Crispy nuggets as a topping: If you want the textural contrast of breaded chicken, cook a batch of Chick-fil-A Spicy Nuggets separately and serve them on top of each bowl rather than simmered into the soup. This way the breading stays crispy at the moment of eating — true to the restaurant presentation.
Building the Soup in Layers
The flavors develop in a specific order that matters:

Storage and Reheating
Refrigerator: The soup keeps for 4–5 days in an airtight container. It thickens considerably as it chills because of the bean puree — thin it with a splash of chicken broth when reheating.
Reheating: Stovetop over medium-low heat, stirring frequently, is best. Avoid boiling after the dairy has been added — it can cause the sour cream to break. Microwave works in a pinch; stir every 60 seconds.
Freezer: Freeze portions before adding the dairy components for the cleanest result. Add fresh sour cream and cream when reheating from frozen. Keeps up to 3 months. (You can freeze after adding dairy but the texture after thawing is slightly less smooth.)
Tortilla strips: Store separately at room temperature — they soften overnight in liquid. Keep them in a sealed bag and add fresh to each bowl.
