Brown & Haley Copycat Recipes

Brown & Haley was founded around 1914 in Tacoma, Washington, by Harry L. Brown and J.C. Haley. Harry Brown created Almond Roca in 1923 — a hard crack butter toffee studded with slivered almonds, coated in milk chocolate, and rolled in more chopped almonds. The name came from a Tacoma librarian named Jacqueline Noel, who suggested 'Roca' (Spanish for rock) because the brittle candy reminded her of a stone and almonds were then imported from Spain. Brown & Haley introduced the iconic pink keepsake tin in 1927 to protect the toffee from humidity; every piece is still made in Tacoma today. The candy is sold in approximately 63 countries, with about 40 percent of production exported. A 10-oz keepsake tin retails for about $13.99–14 at most grocery stores and the company's website.
