Karo Copycat Recipes

Karo corn syrup was introduced in 1902 by the Corn Products Refining Company, initially marketed as a table syrup and baking ingredient. By the 1930s, Karo began printing a pecan pie recipe on the bottle label — a formula of corn syrup, sugar, eggs, butter, vanilla, and pecans baked in a pie shell — and that back-of-bottle recipe became the standard American pecan pie. The brand sells two varieties: light corn syrup (mild, neutral sweetness) and dark corn syrup (with molasses added for depth and color). Karo is owned by ACH Food Companies and distributed nationally; a 16-oz bottle retails for about $3.50–4.00 at most grocery stores.
