Manwich Copycat Recipes

Manwich — the portmanteau of 'man' and 'sandwich' — is Hunt's sloppy joe sauce in a can, introduced in 1969 and sold by Conagra Brands. The 15.5-oz can of Original sauce, now priced at about $2 at most grocery stores, was one of the first convenience shortcuts for the classic American sloppy joe: open a can, brown a pound of ground beef, combine, and serve on hamburger buns. The sauce is tomato-based and distinctly sweet, built around tomato puree, high-fructose corn syrup, and distilled vinegar, with dried bell peppers, chili pepper, garlic powder, and a proprietary spice blend finishing it out.
