Ocean Spray Copycat Recipes

Ocean Spray was founded in 1930 as a growers' cooperative by three cranberry growers from the bogs of Massachusetts and New Jersey. Marcus L. Urann, one of the co-founders, had pioneered commercially canned cranberry sauce as early as 1912 as a way to market cranberries year-round. The jellied cranberry sauce reached stores nationally in 1941 and became the single most iconic Thanksgiving condiment in America. Ocean Spray sells 70 to 86 million cans a year, with roughly 80 to 85 percent sold in the six weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The brand controls approximately 70 percent of the US cranberry market. A 14-oz can of the jellied sauce retails for about $2.47 at Walmart.
