Di Fara Pizza at 1424 Avenue J in Midwood, Brooklyn has been open since 1965, when Domenico 'Dom' DeMarco arrived from Caserta, Italy and built a pizzeria around a specific vision of how pizza should taste. For nearly 60 years Dom made almost every pie by hand — cutting fresh basil with scissors directly over each hot pie and drizzling olive oil from a height before it reached the table. He died in March 2022 at age 85; his family keeps the restaurant open and makes the pizza his way. Eater, New York Magazine, and GQ have all placed it at or near the top of the best pizza in New York City.
