Grandma Brown's Copycat Recipes

Grandma Brown's Home Baked Beans was a New York institution for more than 80 years, founded by Lulu 'Grandma' Brown in Mexico, New York (Oswego County) during the 1930s. The brand distributed throughout upstate New York, New England, and Pennsylvania, known for the signature brown-and-yellow can with Grandma Brown's illustrated portrait. Unlike mass-produced canned beans, Grandma Brown's beans were genuinely oven-baked at low heat, giving them a creamy texture and caramelized molasses glaze that set them apart from every competitor. Production ceased around 2021, leaving a devoted customer base making homemade versions to recreate the classic.
