Lofthouse Foods was founded in 1994 by David Stone in Ogden, Utah with $2,000 and a leased kitchen under 500 square feet — named after his mother's maiden name. Stone spent nights baking and days selling to local convenience stores before pivoting to grocery store in-store bakeries. By 2001, annual sales had reached roughly $70 million. Ralcorp Holdings acquired the company in 2002; ConAgra absorbed it in 2013. The cookies — thick, pillow-soft frosted sugar cookies with pastel buttercream and sprinkles — are now sold in the bakery section of virtually every major US grocery chain. A 10-count package retails for about $3.97–6.49 depending on the store.
